About us

Immersive Music at PXL Music, Hasselt

What do we do?

Our focus lies on immersive and 360 audio, a rapidly growing field within music production. Major technology companies are already integrating immersive audio into their platforms, such as Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, and Deezer, using formats like Dolby Atmos or Sony360. Additionally, products such as the Apple Vision Pro and services like Netflix Spatial Audio are further driving immersive music into the market.

As an educational institution training musicians, sound engineers, and music managers, it is essential not only to keep up with these trends but to stay ahead of them. We aim to educate our students in an environment that reflects future developments in the industry, both in streaming services and live concerts, where new experiences are being explored. Moreover, we collaborate with other research groups, focusing specifically on the intersections between gaming technology and music.

Our distinctive strengths

Unlike some educational institutions that focus on creating new technologies and conducting academic research, our research group centers on the development of new content. We always approach technology from an artistic perspective: what is needed to realize specific productions, and how can we improve the quality of immersive productions in terms of content?

While we do not shy away from technology—in fact, we actively develop and embrace it—this is always done with the goal of elevating productions both artistically and technically.

Our unique contributions

Our research group offers a unique range of new production tools and innovative methods for songwriting. This approach enables us to explore paths that set us apart from many other institutions. By focusing on the artistic end products, we create experiences that are not only technologically advanced but also deeply aligned with the artistic vision.
